PROFILE OF R.K.MOSSANG MEMORIAL SOCIETY, JAIRAMPUR.
This NGO was formed in the year 1993 and was named after Late R.K.Mossang, (P.O. Nampong, Dist. : Changlang, Arunachal Pradesh) who was a social leader. He took initiative in development of education, environment, culture, hygiene and society of the people of Tangsa tribe. People of this tribe inhabit in the areas near Indo-Myanmar border of Arunachal Pradesh. Being isolated by hilly terrains, people were not enlightened.
Miss Komoli Mosang who was also a Minister of this state, chaired the NGO taking Sri Arup Kumar Choudhury as the Secretary along with other members. It was Miss Mosang who started the mission of giving education along with giving guidance for economic upliftment to the rural masses who are yet to be reached.
It started with a primary school and a weaving cum training center at Jairampur and since then got actively involved in the works as mentioned in the enclosed “Activities under taken”. The main thrust is being given to improve the economy of people through the cultivation of horticultural, medicinal and aromatic plants, bamboo and cane along with cultivation of mushroom, vermin composting etc. besides the development in other sectors. Today this society besides working on the sectors mentioned above, is also implementing and implemented following major projects.
- Three schools of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya in interior villages i.e. Maganton, Lonlung and Changlang under S.S.A in Changlang District of Arunachal Pradesh.
- Established and running I no Elementary Residential School for 100 girl students in New Khamdu village.
- 2 schools for 100 girl students in each in Maganton and Lonlung villages under Rashtriya Madhyamik Siksha Abhiyan (RMSA)
- Established and running one middle level primary school at Jairampur
- Running 21 nos. of Creches in interior villages of Tirap and Changlang districts.
- Conducting Bridge Course of Education and RSTC for girl students in Jairampur
- Implemented Condensed Course of Education for adult women in Jairampur.
- Targeted Intervention Program on Core Composite FSWs and IDUs in Changlang and Tirap districts.
- Targeted Intervention Program on Migrants of Changlang district
- Cultivating 648 hectares of Jatropha through 216 nos. of beneficiaries in collaboration with M/S D1 Williamson Magor Bio-Fuel Ltd. and with financial support of the State Bank of India.
- Cultivation of bamboo in 32 hectares by 32 beneficiaries.
- Formed 42 nos. of Self Help Group with bank linkage in the districts of Tirap and Changlang.
- Established demonstration plot of medicinal, aromatic and commercially important species at Namgoi village.
- Rehabilitating Agar plant (Aquilaria agallocha) in Changlang district.
- Campaign for rubber cultivation.
- Created rubber cultivation in 2 hectares in Namgoi village.
- Established rubber nursery and making seedlings available at a lower rate for the farmers.
